Abstract

Introduction: One of the key criteria for sustainable development is social security. For this purpose, the location of police stations in rural areas is one of the essential planning factors in the spatial development of regions and areas.
Objectives: The purpose of the research is to locate police stations in the rural areas of Ravansar.
Methodology: This is a descriptive-analytical and applied study. The method of collecting data and resources is through library and field methods. The statistical population includes 150 villages in Ravansar County. Two factors were used to determine and analyze suitable areas for establishing rural checkpoints. First natural factors (altitude, slope, land use, distance from the fault), and then human factors such as accessibility and population were selected. Also, data analysis was done through GIS software, the AHP method and linear planning.
Geographical Context: The research area of 150 villages of Ravansar County is located in the northwest of Kermanshah Province.
Results and Discussion: The maps of villages based on their natural attributes such as altitude, slope, distance from the fault, and land use were drawn in GIS. These maps utilized overlapping layers of the suitable natural location to create checkpoints. Regarding human factors, the spatial distribution and density of the rural population in rural areas and the access coefficient are determined. After overlapping the layers, the rural areas' human factors were used to determine the checkpoints. As a result, layers in natural and human dimensions of 8 optimal locations of police stations were identified.
Conclusion: The results showed that the security criteria are crucial, and the region's criteria and the geographical area should be noted. In high-density areas such as Hassanabad, the police checkpoints can be on transportation roads due to the strategic location (border bazaar) of Ravansar and its proximity to the Iraqi border. Furthermore, Paveh, Javanrood and Thalas Babajani are located in the center of the province (Kermanshah).
